Hi,

1/4- Good enough for local FM work.
J-Pole- have not used it, but some people here swear
by them. For 6, it will be around 13 feet high and
quite heavy.
5/8- Great. I have one, the DPGH62 from Diamond. I
have to say I use it for FM at my repeater receiving
site, but I have tried it on TX briefly and have got a
hell of a distance (local) with only 5 watt and an HT.

On my days as a beginner on 6, I used a home made 1/2
dipole and got 81 contacts on FM on 52.525 back in
2001.
