If you work regularly with your county EOC and Emergency Management Office,
it would behoove you to consider taking the suggested courses. Much of the
grant money available for County level EM and EOC operations is based on the
number of staff and volunteers that have been trained in the Incident
Command System. We are hoping that this will help provide funding for a
full HAM station for our EOC and other locations through out the county.

If we HAMs are to be of service to our local communities in an emergency,
training in the Incident Command System is imperative and necessary. They
will not use you if you can't work knowledgably within that system. This
program is designed to provide seamless integration of ALL emergency workers
into one smooth working operation. As Ham operators we should be part of
that team. ARES and RACES strongly encourage taking these classes and I
encourage you to do so as well. Let's be a help in a time of need and not a
hindrance.

Personally, this appears to be more of a course that first responders
would be required to take, rather than the Emergency Communications
course the ARRL has for hams..

Seems like quite a few items other than radio communications are
included & that it is quite similar to "volunteer" training by the
CERT (Citizens Emergency Response Team) courses that are offered on
the county level of government.
