Hi,
I do not think there will be much of a change. First,
as I said in my previous post, at least here in FK68,
VHF/UHF activity is close to nill except 6M SSB, and
HF continues as it has forever. HF rigs are still
expensive, when you include the behemoth tower/antenna
and other ancillary equipment normally associated with
an HF shack (even when you can get by with a 10M
mobile rig...), so, money wise, I do not think people
will jump right on HF.
I think the CW testing is in part guilty of the lost
in interest in HAM radio, in this time and age. Why
bother, when I can send a text message with my phone,
some might say, even when the fastest T/M guys were
beaten by CW guys in Leno's show. I think the change
will be gradual. Many of my friends cheered when they
learned of the change. And I am talking about
engineers, and other technical professionals like
myself. Many were not even using the VHF/UHF rigs
anymore because they felt dead ended. CW has been used
as a weed out elitist tool by many clubs, to hold an
"exclusive" kinda status. I just want HF for digital
modes. 6M is, at least for me the coolest band with
the coolest people.
