Why would any one want tone on 6-meters? <:-))
Actually, as long as I've been operating 6 I've never needed tone. Although
my 897 does have tone I seriously doubt I'll need it on 6 and I have
dedicated duobanders for 144 and 440 where I do use tone. Now if I could
get rid of my Alinco DR6710T and Kenwood TM-V7A to get another TM-D700A.
Both work well except I need to replace the display on the TM-V7A. For two
rigs that look so much alike from the same manufacturer they sure do program
differently.
I will hasten to add that I have actually made a few FM contacts on 6 with
the station in here running about 25 watts through 228 feet of LMR 400 to a
7L Yagi at 115 feet. It just seems to have a bit extra than the vertical at
32 feet on the shop. <:-))

For back up and mobile I went with the Yaesu FT897D. I've even worked the
gulf coast a few times on 6 from out in the shop with nothing more than the
HyGain Vertical.
Now if the weather will improve, I *should* get up the tower
tomorrow...er... today now, remove the rotator, lower the mast to work on
the 7L C3i 6-meter Yagi, and try to decide what I'm going to do with the 144
and 440 vertical arrays up there. I do like the directivity, but I'm amazed
they've held together whipping around in the wind up there.
