HF will probably bounce straight over at 80-100 miles! 6 probably would if
the band is open and definitely will not if the band is closed. If its more
or less line of sight then 2m is the way to go, directional antenna perhaps
and maybe some extra power. Hope that helps.

Subject: [SixClub] SIX METER DISTANCE

I have a friend who has a boat and wants real time information from shore
(WEATHER, and other things)
he typically goes 80-100 miles and we were discussing 6 meters, neither one

of us is familiar with the band but we know 2 meters wont work at that range

cause he is over the horizon from all shore repeater towers
so
1. will 6 meters give us the comms we need or do we really need to go HF, I
am familiar with Hf as i worked it in the navy for 21 years while a radioman
2. need rig and antenna recommendations for his boat

thanks
