[SixClub] SIX METER DISTANCE

I have a friend who has a boat and wants real time information from shore 
(WEATHER, and other things)
he typically goes 80-100 miles and we were discussing 6 meters,  neither one 
of us is familiar with the band but we know 2 meters wont work at that range 
cause he is over the horizon from all shore repeater towers
so
1. will 6 meters give us the comms we need or do we really need to go HF, I 
am familiar with Hf as i worked it in the navy for 21 years while a radioman
2. need rig and antenna recommendations for his boat
