[BULK] - Re: [SixClub] Question on RG8 or RG213

Jordan, mil-spec RG-213/U is very easy to find and made by several QPL
manufacturers, all of whom are in the U.S. RG-8/U is not manufactured by
anyone today (to the mil standard), and varies from absolute junk to stuff
that's far better than RG-213/U, depending on its design, materials,
construction and workmanship. LMR400, for example, is loosely defined as
RG8, as is 9913 and many other products that are 50 Ohms and .405" diameter.
Since FPE (cellular polyethylene, or "foam" dielectric) cables aren't
qualified to the military standard, none of the "low loss" cables are
mil-spec, and probably never will be, unless they change the standard. But
many of the FPE "non military" RG8-sized cables have far better performance
than mil-spec RG-213/U, with regard to virtually every parameter except
mechanical strength and upper operating temperature. -WB2WIK/6
