As to norvice license .. My XYL has held a norvice license for about 30
years, had a gen for a few months, 70s, but then went to surgery, etc. and
that license class issue was NOT on our "most important" list.. she is way
more competent to tune/operate than the majority of the "rubber duck
squad" -- and certainly knows not to put her fingers in the HV cage! (She
watched me make that mistake!) --- AND ... SHE KNOWS Charlie Whiskey!
Learned it the hard way, getting up in the wee hours and listening .. on AM
.. code practice from Fred, K6RAU, on 75M .. AM ... at like 6 in the
morn.... Reason to be still a Norvice? `cuz she's happy with that, and
other things in life were more important through the years. She has been
to many many hamfests, sold ham gear (EEB, EGE 800 operator), and she can
operate one fine business station here anytime she wants .. So don't assume
anything. AND .. she has provided THOUSANDS of sandwiches to multi
operator contest stations ... Known as "THE QUEEN OF SANDWICH" --- @ KL7RA,
AA6DX, AA6DX/wherever, etc...
Made the sandwiches for a MAJOR operation from the Goodyear Blimp. can you
believe, we even had champagne up there ... you cannot do that, you know....
Ahhh well .. just sharing "stuff" ... I taught ham radio classes for years,
and up until about 4-5 years ago, beat my chest about the need for knowledge
of the Morse Code. When the US Coast Guard gave it up, I decided I could do
so too, and within 3 years came to live with it. But, still love to
operate CW .. contest? Let's go .. 4 WPM or so .. Cheers, Mark
