I have to admit, at age 13 I got 5wpm once I just memorized the 
letters!! Took two weekends to do it...luckily I also played piano so 
the music and timing background help...BUT....

Just go thru the alphabet and numbers...memorize each one (L and F, Q 
and Z are always the hardest for most folks....numbers are easy because 
of the pattern!)

Once you have them memorized, sound off code to yourself while looking 
at things....do not use DOT and DASH!! NO NO NO!! use dah for dashes and 
dit for dots....drop the T on repetitive dits except the last one....as 
in dididiDIT is H (four dits)...S is didiDIT

a STOP sign is:   dididit  DAH  dahdahDAH  diDAHDAHdit
F is didiDAHdit....L is diDAHdidit (I DID get them right I hope ;)

and so forth...once you can read code when looking at the word, you have 
5 wpm!!
