This discussion relating to the new requirements for amateur
examinations and BPL are not related.

Thus trying to justify the new ARRL approach to licensing using BPL as
an argument seem way off-base and qualifies as a scare tactic. Also
blaming the internet for attracting young people who might have
otherwise chosen amateur radio seems far fetched!

Amateur Radio exists today in countries where there are only a handful
of operators and no "League" to support them! We should not be driven by
threats and scare tactics. We are a unique / elite group and we should
expect the majority of the people will have no interest in joining us!
This is the way it has been since 1967 when I was first licensed and we
should recognize this.

I think the Code / No-Code debate should have been completely avoided
had the plan been to leave the code element the same and add additional
elements to the testing process but letting the individual pick two out
of three elements to be tested on. There was no need to give new
privilege to any group in fact it created problems as already pointed
out. The ARRL has created a mess and in my opinion it was unnecessary!

One who sales memberships and magazines might have alternative motives
but I rather believe they made bad choices and now find themselves in a
spiraling downward spin.

Having said this, I am an ARRL member and plan to be a member even when
I disagree. A strong lobby in Washington is needed and I support it for
issues like BPL and Spectrum Management but not in descent and deceit.
