[SixClub] Problems with IC-551D
K8RI on 50MHz

I'm not sure if the 551 does it like the 745 and 751, but I think it does.
They have a back-up battery about the size of a quarter (just like the ones
in computers) in there that does fail sometimes. I never had one fail, but
I replaced the one in the 745 after 10 years. On the 745 it'd lose its
brains if the battery died or was disconnected (it'd plain quit working)
which made changing it an interesting proposition. On mine they had an
update and I purchased it with the memory module so all I had to do was
replace the module without it losing everything.

I'm afraid I don't know anything about the birdies.

2. It's got nasty birdies. At around 50.130 for example. The highest pitch
is 50.1292 but it's nearly inaudible. At about .1307 it's loud, annoying,
and the AF is maybe 500 Hz. It passes out of audibility near .1316. Others:
50.147 (not as loud)
50.150 (loud)
50.160 (not quite as loud)
Hey, never mind about the birdies. When I unplug my 8-port Cat 5 (network)
switch, they go away!
