The band plan as voted on in Texas back in 1980 calls for -1Mhz offset with
20 kHz spaced, odd channels...
(01, 03, 05, etc)....that has NEVER been changed in a vote by the
membership....the Board and coordinating committee
(ruled by Armidillo) had decided to open 52-53 Mhz to MIXED inputs and
outputs....(when the FCC opened 51-52 MHz to rptrs in 1990, the band plan in
Texas has NEVER been changed....period!)
As for the rest of the country, the states under MACC (Mid America
Coordinating Council) is now on the NW Pacific -1.7Mhz offset (same channel
spacing, etc as the old -1MHz offset which the ARRL rammed down everyone's
throat in the late 70s and Texas adopted in 1980 at the Beaumont meeting of
the Society) This plan (though I prefer a 1.6 Mhz offset like 220) does make
the MOST use of the entire 3 MHz of the FM rptr segment.....and puts ALL
inputs in one range and all outputs in ONE range (unlike the 500 kHz split
which does NOT and actually pushes the USER to try to make their antenna and
radio work over a wider range of TX and RX!!....IE: 1.7 Mhz split: user only
needs to xmit 51-52.6 and rcvr 52.3 to 54 Mhz...
500 kHz split: user needs to cover TX 51-53.5 Mhz and RX 51.5 to 54 MHZ!!!!
Try and make a MOTRAC go that far :)
Those states on the CA 500 kHz split plan which again the ARRL VRAC rammed
down the throat of the ARRL is FEW and far between...CA, Michigan and I
think Florida is it!!! Most of the country is still on the old -1MHz offset
or the -1.7Mhz offset....and of course the 500 kHz split calls for EVEN
channels as the band was back before 1980!!! HELLO!??? ARRL VRAC, HOW STUPID
ARE YOU???? Well they answered that question already :)
Personally, I would have liked to have seen a totally NEW bandplan....-1.6
Mhz split on EVEN channels like 220 is...
That way EVERYONE would have to move...no bias there!!! But trying to get
the country to agree on a nationwide plan for 6 is worse than trying to milk
a boar hog!!! :) Even when the -1MHz split was in favor of ALMOST everyone,
the S CA area decided on TWO plan splits...300 and 800 kHz!!! (REALLY! How
dumb!)...
Funny how the split is set on EVERY other band....10m -100kHz, 2Mtrs + or -
600 kHz, 220 -1.6 Mhz, and 440 +/- 5 Mhz...but 6 mtrs is the bastard
stepchild plan but the one that has the most potential for band openings
nationwide...and you would think ONE that would be NATIONWIDE agreed on with
a common split but it seems it never will!
(BTW ever want to know WHY 52.525 is the only oddball channel??? You have to
go back 40+ years because of that!!!)
