[SixClub] Trying to figure out WSJT...

 Thanks, I should have changed the subject line myself but didn't. OK, lets
break this down.

Wiring: Yes it is correct, I have used PSK31 on this radio for the last few
years on HF and once or twice on 6m and it works fine.

Mode: Well, I am not sure what mode to use, so what I have done is set each
one and then monitor it for about 15 minutes, then switch to the next,
repeat, during the time that the random QSO hour is on.

Different Modes: No I was not aware there was an A B or C of each mode, the
version of the software I have (WJST 3.8.1) only lists FSK441, JT6M, JT44
and EME Echo.

Frequencies: I have monitored from 50.255 to 50.290 all USB, I have a bad
birdie on .290 that I am still tracking down.

Schedules: I have attempted one sked and they couldn't hear me nor I them.

Tropo vs. Local: I knew it wasn't good for tropo as it was designed for
weaker signals, to much signal = overload.

Pings and DF: I am not sure if I have heard anything or not, and the one
time I thought I had the DF was about -40, I am still not sure what that
means.

RTFM: Yes I have, not that it made much sense, I have read it three times
now, some of it seems to make sense, the rest is still floating around
waiting for the click.

Thanks for what help you can give me, like I said worse comes to worse I
will switch to LSB and fire up some RTTY or get out the Zeus and do some AM.

First thing I have done is change the "Subject Line" since these last
two posts have nothing to do with the "AOL" discussion.

There is not much stated as to what part of WSJT you are having problems
with so I will ask a few questions and try to help.

Are you sure your "wiring is correct" i.e. good interface? Are you able
to copy say PSK31 signals and your transmitter is keying properly.

Are you trying to use the Weak Signal Mode JT65 or the meteor scatter
FSK441 modes?

Are you aware that each one of the FSK441 A,B or C modes and the JT65
A,B or C modes will not decode each other. In other words if someone is
sending JT65B, JT65A will not decode the messages both stations have to
use the same mode!

What frequencies are you listening for activity?

Have you attempted any skeds?

Are you aware that the Meteor Scatter FSK441 modes do not copy strong
tropo signals well at all? (They were designed for meteor pings)If you
are trying to copy a buddy across town you will probably rx 30 seconds
of garbage.

Are you sure you have heard FSK441 Meteor Scatter Pings that have not
decoded? If so, what was the DF? Do you know how to make adjustments for
DF and to reduce the tol set point.

Give me some more information and I will try to help you both with
mastering WSJT. I have 154 unique calls worked using both FSK441 and
JT6M and it isn't rocket science.

The last question I ask is; have you read the manual? There is a very
good manual provided and it has lots of detail.
