    The Radio is here.  What a beast!  Definitely American.  Sized for 
adults :).

The power supply is clearly borked.  According to my good DVM the four 
screws
at the back measure:

  +50.8V        +6.8V ( jumps to 17.1V & back down )    -25V          
+24.5V

Even so, VFO A works.  The nixies count up & down when I spin the knob.
Also, the S meter behaves reasonably when I turn the RF gain up & down.

  I'm not bothering to troubleshoot the supply.  Just going forward with 
the 3-terminal
regulator mod as described in the CQ magazine article.  Already did all 
the board
mods.  Very carefully.  I was able to just pull a few connections and 
remove the screws, and then
lever the board up.

   Some of the transistors had sockets;  I removed those too.  I 
carefully put each removed part in
a organizer box, and added a label with the designator...just in case.  
Just for yuks, I tested each
transistor as I removed it.  They all tested good, but a couple of them 
had pretty low gain.

Finishing the mod, I tried it out.  No go.  The nixies lit for a moment, 
and then went out.  Sigh.

I'm going to make a schematic with all the changes to understand how 
it's SUPPOSED to work.  Then I
can figure out why it doesn't.  It's not that complicated.
