Folks
I thought I'd send out a friendly warning about dying capacitors in
Signal/One radios. In the past several months, there have been 4
reported cases of power supply capacitors failing and causing damage to
the radio.
If you're lucky, the capacitor just fails and causes no problems, if
not, damage can extend from burning PC board traces from a shorted
capacitor to having to clean out tiny bits of a capacitor that has
exploded. All of which have been reported.
What this means is that the capacitors used in Signal/One radios are
nearing the end of their useful life and should be replaced. Several of
the list members have proactively begun to replace their PS capacitors
while you can still purchase them. Though not cheap, it's cheaper than
having to rebuild the circuit board with bits of wire and epoxy and also
having to purchase the capacitors.
I urge all of you to give some consideration to replacing your
capacitors, if you haven't done so already.
