The first place I would look would be a shop that sells the custom 
windowpane-size stuff and ask if you can scrounge through their scrap 
bin.  Tell them what you are looking for and offer to pay them a couple of 
bucks if you can find something you can use.

Most will think you're crazy, but if you're polite and don't get greedy, 
most won't mind.
