X1.1 solar flare on the south-east limb

Tuesday, 3 May 2022 18:00 UTC

X1.1 solar flare on the south-east limb

An X1.1 (R3-strong) solar flare was observed on the south east limb
today. The eruption was fairly impulsive and peaked at 13:25 UTC.

This region was also responsible for an M1.3 solar flare at 07:52 UTC
but this was also an impulsive event just like the X-flare. Both of
these events were not eruptive and no coronal mass ejections were
launched into space. This activity originating from the south-east limb
could signal the return of old sunspot region 2992. Further M and X
class activity is possible as this new region rotates onto the
earth-facing solar disk.
