/OK you made a sked with a friend or rare DX...but are they there? Did 
they forget and your calling but no one is there. WA4HWN has set up a 
site he calls Chat Shack so you can tell if that person is there too! 
You can chat on it, but the purpose is to meet up on the air - Bill W2CQ

"WA4HWN Chat Shack website in operation during one of my sessions. This 
is an on-line chat room, accessible via the internet, with either of my 
shack computers. Utilizing this chat room permits folks (specifically 
for hams) who have internet access at their operating table, to quickly 
determine if their scheduled contact is “present” or not, and to easily 
determine propagation conditions between the two, or more, stations. 
This eliminates having to call your station on a frequency that may, or 
may not be open, not knowing, for sure, whether the other station is 
present or not, thus preventing the wasting of time and effort. 
Or----you may just want to log on and post your frequency so that others 
may find, and contact you. All are welcome to use it. If you are a 
licensed ham and would like to utilize it, you may go to the log-in page
