Joe Green K2VUI, my boyhood friend in Ham Radio passed away recently. I
was 14 and he was 15 and we traveled together by train to Manhattan in
1958, so I could take my General Class exam in front of the old man. You
sat in rickety chairs with antique headphones to copy the CW. Then you
also had to send using a hand key to his satisfaction. Then came the
written test. I was a Novice, passing my Exam in 1957 and receiving that
ticket in early 1958. But that day in 1958 I became a General Class
Operator, and a great day it was, as it is for everyone moving up in rank.

Joe and I were friends in Ham Radio as teenagers in the 1950's. Joe went
away to Brown in 1960 and I went to RIT in 1961 and we lost touch for a
time. But we reunited on the phone and email years later. We met at
Dayton one year and were fast friends again.

Joe was an avid DXer and FOC Member. His passing was sad for me.

His XYL, Jennifer Green, has offered his equipment for sale at the
following link. Many Keys and Paddles as well as everyday ham gear.
