Some time ago, I was listening to nothing on 10 meters, when I looked at my pan adaptor and saw a signal on the ‘free band’ (the portion of 11 meters outside of the CB band and just below the 10 meter band). I clicked and listened to what appeared to be a normal dx type of amateur communications. The station was responding to callers with a 5 and 9, and would call CQ with a strange call.

Googling the call, I saw that it was a CB call. I didn’t know there was such a thing.

Many of today’s CBers, are nothing like they were when I was on CB back around 1976. These guys have dx clusters, dxpeditions, a QSL bureau and awards. I wonder where they got those ideas? They even have come up with programs such as Shipwrecks on the Air, where I guess, they transmit above the water.

It puzzles me why they have organized all of this, and setup stations with amateur radio gear to stay on one band, when it is so easy to become a ham.

Don’t believe me? Checkout what appears to be their ARRL here: http://www.delta-alfa.com/ <http://www.delta-alfa.com/>
