[SFDXA] A followup on my Easy RTTY Easy Digi presentation

Dear SFDXA members,

We had quite an animated discussion on the several ways to implement RTTY at our
Wednesday SFDXA meeting. I appreciate the insights and the feedback from our
very knowledgeable members. I especially appreciate that we DXers can discuss
hot topics civilly and with positive results.

I'm including a SMALL portion of exchanges from the MMTTY email reflector to
highlight the *WRONG* way to discuss a ham topic.

Once again, it is a pleasure to be part of SFDXA, a civil club!!! Thanks.
[My slides, and expanded details are on the SFDXA Yahoo site in the
SFDX-University folder].

The following (excuse their language) is the WRONG way to discuss a serious
topic [read from bottom up]:

Suggesting that you review Don AA5AU's web pages, which have helped
thousands of hams of all ages and experience levels successfully
use MMTTY, and augmenting this with a step-by-step explanation of FSK makes
you feel stupid, Larry?

You feel stupid because you purchased an interface product that doesn't
satisfy your needs. If you think you were deceived, take
that up with the responsible company, and stop lashing out here like an
over-tired two-year-old.

             Dave, AA6YQ

That's O.K., Dave, I still thought you came across as a bit know it all,
like suggesting I should study before I buy equipment. Some of us just want
to get on the air, try a new mode, not go for a major course in digital
communications. I've done my share of reading too by the way on this
subject, but I can't help it that certain manufacturers are too damn cheap
to finish building the gear they sell with another dollars worth of parts.
Feeling insulted is nothing compared to making people feel stupid with your
approach. By the way, maybe some time we can work on some 13.8 KV lines
together, or haven't you studied that?

You're on your own as far as I'm concerned, Larry; just keep on whining,
demanding help, and insulting those who try to assist you,
and you'll do fine.

By the way, I don't hold a PhD from MIT; it requires a thesis for a BS
degree.

I've given up on operating FSK for the time being, just not enough time to
study all those articles and such that someone suggested
to me. So here's where I'm at now. When I transmit, I can hear the diddles,
but they are not going out over the air. I am instead
putting out a constant key down carrier. I've gone back over the set up for
MMTTY too many times to count already and just do not
see what the next top secret is that I need to know or what West Mountain
Radio failed to tell us this time. By the way, I do NOT
have a PhD from MIT as some on this reflector claim to have and so like to
brag about, so please forgive my lack of knowledge. As I
heard Warren Buffet say, "We are all wired differently, and I just happened
to be wired this way." That aside.....what am I missing
now, that I am getting constant key down and no diddles out over the air?
I'm running the Rigblaster Advantage and IC 756 PRO III.
I'd like to use the RTTY filters in my PRO (FSK only) but I don't think I
should have to add circuitry, no matter how cheap it is,
to get a brand new piece of equipment to do what it's advertised as able to
do, which is why I've defintitely purchased my last
piece of West Mountain Radio equipment and may just drop this one off at
their table in Dayton this year. Thanks for listening and
for any help offered.
