[SFDXA] echolink?

Interesting phenomenon. Echolink (or IRLP) seems to be the most value to the
station who initiates the call into your node - rather than local members
who initiate outbound calls. For example, I call WB1BRE in Vermont
frequently. First, propagation to Vermont isn't all that great and second, I
can watch him on APRS and know that he'll be available for a call.

So I'll call him once or twice a week on Echolink. But W1FN, maintained by
the Vermont club has repair of this link on the bottom of their "to do" list
due to apparent lack of interest by club members. Well, of course. It's the
folks from other areas that want to call into you. (ex- Tampa to SFDXA) So
with W1FN down 90% of the time with no interest in fixing it by the local
club members, leaves the inbound caller without a connection.

Please rethink you position on fixing the Echolink node. The most valuable
to me is an Echo-IRLP connection. K1CA in Derry NH (my home town) only has
an IRLP link up. So I connect into the Echolink node owned by NR4P in
Boynton Beach, press a couple of buttons, am linked up with IRLP and ready
to make my call to New Hampshire.

Hope this anecdote gives you a different perspective on the importance of
having a working node. 73 to all.

Warren, W4WR

Hi Steve,

Unfortunately, the K4FK Echolink is down at present.  As there did not seem
to be much interest in the use of Echolink to access K4FK, we have not
placed a high priority in getting it back up.  But if there's enough
interest I'll see what can be done.

How's the new QTH?  We miss you.
