The following is a response received by one NC ham from his congressman - I
think it spells out a clear message of intent, and surely likely to have FCC
support as they get to play auctioneer again.

Our complacency will allow this bill to pass - act now!

>Okay guys...below is what I got back from Richard Burr regarding radio spectrum

>Dear Mr. Lassiter,
>
>Thank you for contacting me about the Broadband for First Responders Act (H.R.
>607). I appreciate hearing from you on this important matter.
>
>As you are aware, the Broadband for First Responders Act would create a
>nationwide interoperable communication network for public safety and first
>responders. To accomplish this, the bill would increase the current spectrum
>allocation for public safety communications by 10 megahertz by reallocating
>frequencies in the "D Block" of the electromagnetic spectrum. Further, as a
>means to offset the costs of this reallocation, the bill would order the FCC to
>auction for commerical use other parts of the spectrum.
>
>
>I fully understand the importance of having a nationwide interoperable wireless
>public safety network as was proposed by the 9/11 Commission. I also understand
>the concerns that arise from any reallocation of the electromagnetic spectrum.
>The Broadband for First Responders Act is currently in the House of
>Representatives. Should this bill come before the Senate, please know that I
>will keep your views in mind. Again, thank you for contacting me and please
>stay in touch.
>
>Sincerely,
>Richard Burr
