I woke up at 5 AM today, and being wide awake I decided to see what was on
80 and 160 meters. Not much so I started tuning the BC band and then the LW
band. I was surprised what I could hear on this clear cold morning with 33
deg. f. temp outside. The band was quiet and I heard the following using my
IC7600 and 160 meter Inverted Vee.

Tuning around the old AM band I found:

AM 1100 Cleveland
AM 650 Nashville

These were "easy"

Then I decided to look at the LW band and heard many beacons. SOme
interesting ones were:

216 KHz CLB Wilmington N.C.
221 KHz FX Ft. L Exec Airport
331 KHz FIS Key West, FL
329 KHz CH Charleston, S.C.
344 KHz JA Jacksonville
344 KHz ZIY Grand Cayman Is.
376 KHz ZIN Great Inagua, Bah.
379 KHz TL Tallahassee, FL
385 KHz EMR Augusta Ga.
391 KHz DDP San Juan, P.R.
415 KHz CBC Cayman Brac

Then, I was surprised to tune to 508.9 KHz and hear CW ! I heard W5JGV and
WD2XSH/7 transmitting on the experimental 600 meter allocation. They were
both Q5 and about S-7 here. Then JGV went to PSK-31 and I had 100/100 print
of that. A very nice christmas message to all. More on the low band
experimental efforts are at: http://w5jgv.com/600_mrg.htm

If you find yourself awake with nothing to work, try some listening, like I
did. It brought back the "old" days of radio.
