MEETING ANNOUNCEMENT

The next meeting of the South Florida DX Association will be held this
Wednesday (September 5) at the Florida Medical Center Auditorium (on Oakland Park
Blvd., adjoining the Florida Turnpike --- please consult the SFDXA website at
www.qsl.net/k4fk if you need directions). As always, our informal ($7) dinner
meeting begins at 6:00pm. The business meeting and featured presentation begins
at 7:33pm.

Our featured speaker this month will be Norm Alexander - W4QN. Norm, former
president of Cubex antennas and a founding member of SFDXA, will share his
insights about LIGHTNING PROTECTION. This is a very timely topic as we approach
the peak of our storm season in Florida. Join us and learn what measures you
need to take to better protect your station from the damaging effects of
lightning.

NEW OUTBOUND DX QSL SERVICE (BRING YOUR CARDS WEDNESDAY EVENING)
We are starting a new outbound DX QSL Service (for SFDXA members only) on a
trial basis beginning with our meeting this Wednesday evening. The purpose of
this new, non-profit, service is to provide members with a means to forward
their QSLs to DX stations more conveniently (i.e., no specific QSL quantity
constraints, pay only for the exact number of cards forwarded, no need to sort or
package your QSLs, no need to deliver the cards to the post office, etc.).

What you need to bring to each meeting:
Bring an index card with your call sign, your ARRL membership number (it can
be found on your QST magazine label), and the number of cards you are
submitting.
Bring exact change or a check payable to South Florida DX Association to pay
for both SFDXA forwarding charges to ARRL and ARRL Outgoing Bureau service
charges. The SFDXA flat rate is 25 cents per outgoing card for this convenient
service.
Bring any number of your outbound cards destined for any country served by
the ARRL outgoing bureau.

Deliver your completed index card, exact funds, and your outgoing cards to
Kappy (WA4WTG) or Don (W3AZD) at our bi-monthly meetings.
What we do with your cards:

1. We count and merge all cards received and then sort the combined
stack per ARRL requirements.
2. We enclose a list of the submitters’ call signs and their ARRL
membership numbers.
3. We enclose an SFDXA check to cover ARRL’s Outgoing Bureau forwarding
fee.
4. We package the combined stack securely.
5. We promptly ship this material after each SFDXA meeting to the ARRL
Outgoing Bureau by ground service.
Your cards will be capably handled by Kappy (who currently serves as QSL
manager for 85 DX stations) and Don (former ARRL DXCC manager). I encourage you to
try out this service this week.

NEW WEB PAGES NOW POSTED
The SFDXA web pages were completely redesigned recently (thanks to Norm -
W4QN). There is a wealth of DX information on those pages (with more to be added
soon). If you haven’t checked out our website in recent weeks, go to
www.qsl.net/k4fk and see what you have been missing.

NEW SFDXA NET
Our recently inaugurated SFDXA Net meets every Wednesday (except the first
Wednesday of every odd numbered month when SFDXA meetings are held) at 7:33pm on
the K4FK repeater (147.33 MHz --- PL 103.5). This net is hosted by Bill
(W2CQ) and Pete (N8PR). Please join us next week.

73 & Great DX,
Ray – N4RU
SFDXA President
