The Miami Marathon and Half Marathon will take place on Sunday Jan. 28,
2007. Join us as a volunteer for a few hours of fun and community
service.
For the past 3 years, hams have played a critical role in marathon
communications. We are responsible for maintaining communications between
each mile point, the start and finish areas, sweep buses, press vehicles,
and public safety, EMT, and marathon officials. This is a major and
growing
event for South Florida. With more than 10,000 runners and tens of
thousands of spectators from all over the world, the Marathon is a great
opportunity for us to do what we do best. It's also a great PR
opportunity
for our hobby. The 26.2 mile course starts in downtown Miami, crosses the
MacArthur Causeway to South Beach, returns on the Venetian Causeway to
Downtown, then continues to Coconut Grove, and finally returns to
downtown.
Each ham receives a detailed manual, race credentials, a parking pass (as
applicable), and a race T-shirt. All you need to bring is a 2 meter/440
handheld and an extra battery.
