Amateur Radio operators came from all over the State of Florida to help
with Hurricane Charley relief efforts in Charlotte County last month.
It is now time for us to do the same.
Relief operators are desperately needed in Palm Beach and St. Lucie
County. While some shelters still have telephones and spotty cell phone
coverage, once again in several shelters, amateur radio is the only
reliable form of communication they have. While at the moment many
shelters are manned many operators have been on duty since the start of
this Hurricane and desperately need some relief. Local ham are
overwhelmed with their own personal needs at their homes.
Palm Beach county needs two HF operators and 12 operators for shelters.
David Messinger, N4QPM, EC for Palm Beach County is asking amateurs to
report to the EOC at Southern Blvd and Military Trail. The EOC is
located on the SE corner of the intersection. You may contact the EOC
on 147.225+ (PL 103.5) or 147.360+ (no tone). You may also directly
contact the ARES/RACES room in Palm Beach County via telephone at
561-712-6319.
Help is also need in St. Lucie County as well at a minimum of 4
stations. They are operating on 147.346 with a PL tone of 107.2 located
in Stewart. No telephone contact information is available at this time
for St. Lucie County.
WCF Amateurs may also coordinate, and receive a tracker number, through
WCF SEC John Townsley at 727-808-0493 or WCF Section Manager Dave
Armbrust, at 941-685-2081.
