Look for ferro-ceramic magnetic material.  It being a "fired" ceramic product 
it will not be effected by elements.

I suspect the magnets you are using now are a form of powdered iron.

You may do as well by taking those typical bases and putting them into a flat 
paper cup and filling with epoxy - provide some spacing of the bottom so that 
you get a layer of epoxy all around.
