A quick note of thanks for the expressions of concern re Charlie activity in
Highlands County.
I was unfortunately blind to almost all of it until power was unexpectedly
returned a couple
hours ago to most of Lake Placid, and a very limited part of Sebring.

My QTH was nearly 30 miles west of the eye, so we didn't take nearly as much
of
a buffeting as the towns west of us on Route 17.

No bodily damage to any of our members in the area as far as can be
determined.

Altho some folks told me in Melbourne yesterday that there were no
generators available
south of North Carolina and would not be for the next two weeks, Joe W4IR
and I managed
 to be number 8 and 9 in a waiting line for 10 generators available at Sears
in Sebring. this
morning. No sooner did we lug the generator out of Sheila's jeep and set it
on the back
 porch them the power came on. Almost at the same time Tom KK4TA pulled into
the yard
with his pickup with a loaner generator in the back, which it turned out
that we didn't need,
but a very generous gesture on his part.  FCGers helping each other has
become a tradition,
one that I'm very thankful for.

I'm off momentatarily to John W4AI's place to see how he's dealing with some
downed
power lines hanging across his driveway.

As soon as I get a change to burrow though the underbrush, I'll get some pix
of my
s-curved horizontal 80 m vertical and crushed 6m beam, before we begin the
chain
saw activity enroute to rebuilding.

After a little time off for cleanup etc. we'll get back to work on the
newsletter.
