A meeting of media managers, city leaders and police brass led to one
decision in the stalemate over access to scanner traffic - a decision to meet again
next week.
Both sides - with lawyers present - aired concerns about the radio issue
Wednesday at City Hall, but the roughly 90-minute meeting did not bring a
compromise and the media did not rule out the possibility of a lawsuit.
The next meeting will involve a small committee of representatives from each
media outlet, police and the city.
City leaders say no one, including the media, will be able to listen to
police radio traffic, which will be entirely encrypted once the new 800 megahertz
radio system is in place.
Managers from the Times Record News, KAUZ-TV and KFDX-TV are fighting for
the same access they've always had.
