As part of an effort to bolster the role of Amateur Radio in support
of emergency communications, the Response and Recovery Division of
the Indiana Department of Homeland Security is encouraging the
voluntary development of a set of recommended technology and
protocols for all EMAs in Indiana.
I have been authorized to seek a volunteer from each district to be
part of a working group to develop a set of recommendations. We will
be asking our EMA Directors to solicit volunteers and make
recommendations from each IDHS district in the near future.
It is my hope that much of the discussion can be done on this Yahoo
Group to permit as much participation and comment as possible. A
conference bridge will also be available to the members of the group
to facilitate this process.
This is not an effort to dictate any standards, but rather an
opportunity for those how know the best methods of emergency
communications to promote improved interoperability on a statewide
basis. (With luck, we may be able to get our neighboring states on-
board with the concept, as well.)
Candidates should be well versed in the technology of all modes (in
particular digital modes) and more interested in achieving consensus
than victory.
If you or someone you know would be a good candidate for this group,
please contact your EMA Director with your recommendation.
Thanks and 73,
Don, W9DEW
Communications Director,
IDHS
