Not too horrible, although there is a bit of a learning curve, especially
with the GRE (Radio Shack) models.

I've had experience programming both the Uniden 250D/296D and the Radio
Shack Pro-96, and I didn't have too many problems, despite my rather bad
habit of trying first, and referring to the manual only when stumped.

Third party software applications are available to program both the Pro-96
and the Uniden Digital Trunktrackers, if computer programming is your
thing. I didn't find them necessary enough to justify the extra expense.
Besides, taking the time to learn how to program the scanner manually has
always come in handy when I needed to add a frequency "on the fly".

HTH.
