Most any ham will tell you that when someone wants to interfere
with a repeater, it doesn't matter if the joker has the split,
the PL or anything other than the output frequency (or the input
frequency).
"Repeater trashers" can transmit on your input and trash your
machine.......they can transmit on your output and trash your
machine. They don't care whether they have the split or not -
although most of them get off knowing that they are trashing a
machine. There is nothing to stop them from transmitting on
your input with ONE radio and listening to the output on a
different radio.
You are probably right that the average handheld geek cannot
do split but that doesn't stop him from picking input or output;
and usually it will be output, since that is where he will hear
some activity.
