The Prefix "96" is for Major Drug Units, just as "95" is for Commercial =
Vehicle Enforcement Units, and "56" are for Excise Units, and so on...
5-5 and 5-9 are "Area" units. Most areas in the state have gone away =
from area car numbers, reflecting the change to Major Drug and so forth. =
A couple of years ago they began phasing out "Area" car numbers and =
making most headquarters car numbers. evidently they kept those units =
car numbers the same.
It was that all "9" suffix units were K9 officers, 2-9 was Area 2 K9 =
unit, 3-9 Area 3 K9 and so on...

ISP refers to district 96 by their unit numbers without the prefix.=20
