They've been doing that ever since the switched to MECA. Any transmissions
from the dispatcher to the units in the field are simulcast over the VHF
repeater.

Saturday afternoon, Avon Fire was dispatched on a Tactical run to the 8900
block of 10th Street. The battalion chief, a rescue unit from Station 1,
and an ambulance and engine from Station 2 could find no such incident in
the 8900 East block of 100N ("10th Street") in Hendricks County, so the
chief cancelled the run. Then the dispatcher assigned the rescue unit to
assist Wayne Township on an auto accident at 8900 West 10th Street in
Marion County. The chief responded as well. I can see where it would have
been pretty easy for a 911 call taker or dispatcher to confuse the runs. I
could also see how easy it was for the Avon units to switch from Avon OPS-1
to MC-OPS81 when they responded to the Wayne Township run.
