[ScanIndiana] SAFE-T system in Indy and BC296

Hi all, I decided to purchase a BC296XLT to be able to monitor the SAFE-T
system, and other future digital systems. I just received it yesterday
afternoon, and was playing around with it last night. My plan is to put all
of the control channels for the SAFE-T systems in my area in the unit, then
use control channel trunking to monitor the system. I realize that the unit
will lock onto the first control channel that it finds, which is fine. Last
night, while playing around, I had a reasonable control channel signal from
3 sites (Morgan County, Greenwood, and Indpls.). I am reasonably sure that
I had programed the unit properly, and was searching for IDs. I programmed
the MECA I system in the same way, and it was catching lots of traffic.
With the unit locked onto the Indy SAFE-T site however, I never once picked
up any traffic, analog or digital. This morning, on my way to work, I
picked up a little digital and analog traffic from the Morgan County site, I
think. Anyway, my question is, should I have heard something last night on
the Indy site? I am located on the far west side of Indy, between
Plainfield and Avon, so I might not have had a good enough signal, perhaps.
Also, what software have folks had luck with for programming the radio? It
seems like the software that comes with the unit is OK, but maybe a little
"clunky".
Thanks,
Ken
