Absolutely. For example, shift changes are a prime time to find the
names of secondary talkgroups. =20
Also, it's important to realize that the alpha tag is manually
programmed into the radio itself along with the talkgroup information.=20
You could take 10 different radios on the same talkgroup and they will
have 5 or 6 different "official" alpha tags depending on who programmed
that radio and when. MECA does this all the time. MCSD would tag a
talkgroup with ABC-A where IPD would tag that same talkgroup with AB-1.=20
EMS may have yet another alpha tag for the same group. IFD may even
have another alpha tag for that same group. SAFE-T is not any
different. The statewide talkgroups might have consistent tags but I
wouldn't even count on that.
As Andy points out, the alpha tag is fairly unimportant. If you want to
know MCSD alpha tags then ask some nice MCSD deputy if he will find out
for you. If you want IPD tags then ask an IPD officer. I'm sure
they'll all give you different answers and they'll all be right.
