[ScanIndiana] Camp Atterbury (Edinburgh area)

This weekend I made a drive thru the middle of the old Camp Atterbury,
assuming that the reserves would be doing SOMETHING and using radios, but
was unable to hear much.

I found only 464.50 being used by probably a food caterer, and possibly
462.6125 (an FRS freq!) being POSSIBLY used from a helicopter (sure sounded
like it... but maybe just a cheap FRS radio?!).

I plugged in several freqs I've seen attributed to Atterbury, but heard none
of them active. I did a short search of 138-144 and heard nothing.
All-in-all I was disappointed. Maybe I just didn't know where to look or
was expecting too much on a Saturday afternoon. The base has been
subdivided into a Johnson Co. Park, a Job Corps site, and an Indiana Dept of
Natural Resources hunting site, so one can drive right through the old main
road, and see where many of the old buildings used to sit.

Near the main entrance to the National Guard base is a memorial and a gift
shop in an old railcar. I picked up some decent books on Camp Atterbury,
and numerous (mostly now defunct) Army Air Corps bases, such as Chanute and
Scott. The gift shop is apparently only open on Wednesdays, Saturdays, and
Sundays, but worth a visit if in the area. The base has quite a short
history (established only in 1942), including being a POW camp for Germans
and Italians after WWII.

I'd like to go back to Atterbury if they ever do an Open House or conduct
some exercises around the area, so if anyone knows whether such events
occur, I hope they'll let us know here on the reflector.
