Ken,
A RIT or Rapid Intervention Team is sent to working fires to stand by outside the structure, with their sole purpose being to rescue a firefighter that gets into trouble. RIT teams are now OSHA required and are starting to appear in many communities. They are also called a few other things such as RIC or FAST teams in some areas. This is also referred to as the "2 in, 2 out" rule. Hope this helps.
