One question in my mind is why they didn't switch to SAFE-T along with
Vigo County Sheriff. I'm sure they had their reasons. If I understand
correctly, Terre Haute police has used Vigo County's EDACS system for a
while. And Vigo County Sheriff recently abandoned their EDACS system in
favor of SAFE-T. At that point Terre Haute police put up their own
EDACS ProVoice system? Seems confusing and inquiries to Terre Haute
Police about the system have turned up intentionally vague answers that
really don't explain anything. Sounds like Terre Haute purchased a bag
of magic beans.
They also claim the system is super duper encrypted but I've seen more
than one statement which makes me believe it's unencrypted APCO-25.
(ProVoice is Ericsson's EDACS APCO-25 system. Ericsson's proprietary
digital system is called AEGIS.) Although it certianly could be
encrypted. Anyone in Terre Haute tried to monitor Terre Haute Police
with a APCO-25 digital scanner?
Also, I've seen it explained that Vigo County Sheriff is maintaining the
old EDACS system (WPIR776) as a backup to SAFE-T? Anyone know for
sure? Seems there's a lot of confusion about the old Vigo County system
in SAFE-T listings.
