Phil-- Right, no Morse code exam is required for the Technician license.
The test fee is $12 for 2003, but this goes to the testing coordinator, not
the FCC, so the actual license is free, and is good for ten years,
renewable.

For testing, look on the ARRL Web site, www.arrl.org, or search for
something like "amateur radio testing." There are periodic tests in Indy,
Franklin and Greenfield, but I can't give you specifics. I'm attaching a
list that I keep up, but it's not too current right now because I haven't
been able to get the latest info.

The book we usually recommend is Now You're Talking, published by the ARRL.
You can find it online at places like amazon.com, but be careful which one
you buy. The current Tech test will change on July 1 of this year, so any
book intended for that test is now obsolete, unless you can get it done
before July 1.
