You don't need the key if you know how it was encoded....once you know that,
you can just try systematically until you crack it(based on resources this
could be a few minutes or a few days). I've seen crypto schemes where they
try to swap the algorithm on the fly and that's produced some favorable
results. Even then, you only have a finite number of way to encode it.

I would agree if you were talking about plain digital. But encrypted is just
not able to be hacked away unless you have the key. And if by chance you do
hack it, the regularly scheduled re-codes would send you back to square one.
