I should have figured you’ve researched this Alan!

If you ever recover the data I’d be glad to know what you found out.

I was down by Reedville early this morning and I heard several spotter planes taking off. I tried Close Call on my BC125AT, constrained to the VHF air band, but no hits. They were probably too far away and/or not using the regular air band.

I’m monitoring 122.925 now, a few miles west of Reedville.

Andy

I have done quite a bit of research into this operation, but my notes are on my computer in storage. They run a massive operation with sometimes as many as five spotter planes that operate, as I recall, on 122.925.

They cover the Chesapeake as well as the Atlantic from Jersey to the Carolinas.

The ships are based out of Reedville, Va. The FCC licenses are under different names, but Omega Protein is one of the most recent ones. Sometimes they use encryption, and sometimes they use regular marine channels.

If I can find my old computer in storage, I can tell you more. Please check back with me.

Regards,
Alan

This is a long shot, but does anyone know what frequencies the menhaden spotting planes over the Chesapeake Bay use?
