[Scan-DC] Fwd: Uniden SDS 100 firmware update that bombed

I first replied to Bob and Mary Jeter directly, but after thinking about
the situation, I think all here who are not already aware can use the
information. Therefore, here is a copy of my reply. Caveat, use at your
own risk...

Not defending Uniden because I've seen my share of their problems, but I
would not say "not that easy". You can go to whatever firmware you want
just by copying the desired firmware file (and SUB firmware file if needed,
in this case YES) to the "firmware" directory of the SDS's SD card, then
reboot the scanner. Uniden does know about the problems with the new
firmware, so they quietly posted the old firmware on their twiki page (at
the bottom) for those who rightfully don't trust just accepting a firmware
file from a person unknown. The links to the twiki pages with UNIDEN's
copy of the firmware file is at the end of this message. I was able to
roll back right away because I learned a trick years ago when we were doing
either x96XT or X96XLT beta testing for Paul. When the firmware is first
downloaded, it is saved to the "firmware" directory on the SD card. Once
the scanner is rebooted, or even disconnected from the PC, which causes a
reboot, the firmware is applied and the firmware file is deleted. Anytime
I see Sentinel downloading a firmware update, I COPY (not cut and paste)
the firmware file/s/ from the SD card before disconnecting from the PC.
That has enabled me to have copies of all the firmware files in case of
need, such as in this case.
