I'm not sure they are all that concerned about the scan the police twitter
account, >5000 followers, I'm one of them. It is the phone apps that are
the real issue, criminals have added this no effort solution to their tool
box and cops know it. Most of us consider carefully what to post about
incidents on social media and typically aren't blasting out all of the
details in real time. When I post "Stabbing in Frederick - Potomac Commons
Apartments" I'm not saying, "police have set up a perimeter at street/road
& avenue/ct. I basically run through a 3 question decision tree, Is the
information useful? Would the information in real time cause any trouble
for law enforcement? Are there personal details that shouldn't be shared?
Sometimes I'll fill in a little detail later, especially if people ask
questions. Sometimes I have to follow up, "not a stabbing, just a scratch"
or something like that.
