[Scan-DC] Scanner repair caveat

Hi all,

As I previously stated to the group I am willing to do repairs on Radio
Shack, Uniden and GRE radios both handheld and base/mobile. One caveat is
they have to have been made between 1994 or later. The reason for this is
simple. The longer they have been around it's less likely I can find parts
unless I have a radio of that vintage to get parts from.

Regency scanners in particular were made mostly in the 1980s, using Iambic
pressure keyboards that wore out over a few years verus buttons and
switches that were common later..

The main issues with older scanners are wave soldering cracks that form
over time on the circuit boards due to heat, handhelds that have issues at
the antenna connectors due to being dropped or switching out BNC antennas.
Also backlight LED's that burn out or fluorescent backlights like in the
Pro-2004, 05, and 06 that can be replaced for around 12.00 in parts.

Handheld keypads are generally available from Uniden or you can find "for
parts" complete units on Ebay for Radio shack scanners.

The biggest issue is out of warranty repair labor costs and shipping, so
if you have an older 5 pound radio shack
2006 it will cost close to 18.00 to ship one way for repairs, then the cost
of parts and labor. I had 2 of these and repaired them myself.

The main thing to keep in mind is if you are going to toss the radio please
contact me and I may pay you to ship it to me for the parts I have
mentioned to repair other radios.

Thanks
Greg/KJ4DGE
