Commanding General orders investigation into helicopter usage
District of Air Columbia National Guard | June 3, 2020
WASHINGTON — The District of Columbia National Guard is conducting an
investigation into the June 1 low-flying maneuvers by its helicopters to
ensure all involved complied with applicable procedures and safety
regulations.
"I hold all members of the District of Columbia National Guard to the
highest of standards. We live and work in the District, and we are
dedicated to the service of our nation," said Maj. Gen. William J. Walker,
DCNG Commanding General. "I have directed an immediate investigation into
the June 1 incident.”
As part of the investigation, the DCNG is looking into the use of the
medical evacuation helicopter as part of the Joint Task Force DC operation.
At the direction of the President, District of Columbia National Guard
personnel were activated in support of civil authorities in order to
protect the lives and property of our fellow citizens.
Guard personnel, who serve and live in the local community, are trained,
equipped and prepared to assist law enforcement authorities with protecting
lives and property of citizens within the District.
The DNCG is made up of Soldiers and Airmen who support the community, many
working as police, firefighters, and government leaders supporting civilian
authorities. The Guardsmen have a rich heritage within the National Capital
Region and have been protecting the Capital and defending the nation since
1802.
Today's Capital Guardians consist of more than 2,700 Soldiers and Airmen
providing air sovereignty over the NCR, transporting senior government
leaders, supporting domestic operations and providing mission-ready
personnel for global engagement.
