Andy,

I found this in notes from a Northern VA EMS Council meeting from last June.

APO appears to be a designation for a medic with advanced skills of some sort.


  1.  Advanced Paramedic Officer (APO) Program:

o Still one EMS113 per shift to whom EMS111 and EMS112 (APO Lieutenants) report. EMS113 is the shift EMS Supervisor as well as an additional APO. This will change with possible EMS Chief.

o Human Resources has classified EMS111/112 as a Captain I position. Transfers imminent. o Reminder that current EMS111 and 112 Lieutenants are not EMS Supervisors, but

Advanced Paramedic Officers. No supervisory function.

I still hear medics requesting an "APO" on certain calls. Just now, Arlington was working a heart attack at a 7-Eleven, the medic requested an APO, and Arlington toned out a unit from the nearest station, stating that the medic on scene requested an APO. I still can't figure out what that means. It has something to do with fire or rescue.

Any ideas??

I didn't think it means Arlington Police Officer because normally they just request "PD" when they want police. But maybe some ems personnel use different terminology. I'll listen closer and see if that could be it.
