No this is not a prediction, or a poo-pooing of the state of the art
digital modes currently being used by public service users. It is common
knowledge that what was old becomes new again but in a different form
usually.

Radio adapts to current needs. Today's world is filled with great new
communications and is also used by those with less than honorable
intentions.

I recently read an article about terrorists disrupting GPS satellites to
cause havoc to folks. this has been going on for at least 10 years when the
bad guys succesfully commandeered certain lesser UAVs guidance through GPS
sats.

To combat these things and stay a step ahead some older radios systems are
being looked at and modified to combat these threats. One is eLoran.

The idea of causing a transportation system to fail intentially is scary.
Its also a reality. It was only a matter of time before this was going to
happen. Cyber-Terrorism is bad enough with hackers having cheap access to
hardware that can be used for these things.

Think about all the systems that rely on GPS today and you get the picture.
I predict many agencies both state and federal will start to add backup
analog systems or modify and encrypt those analog systems as time goes by.
