Good evening Gentleman,
I have been listening to bits of this thread and reminded me of an incident
that happened way back in the day. A friend of mine, N3PM ( SK ) once told
me of a time in the mid 70's , he would monitor the CB bands. I did to. My
call sign KGP1237. Any how,, he was cruising the bands on night and kept
hearing on and off chit chat. This went on for days. As time went on, he
became more and more suspicious. As a Navy operator in WWII, he began picking
up code words. It turned out some thief's here in Odenton were watching
someones home. After notifying the police and FCC, he kept listening every
evening. It turns out it was true. The person was working swing shifts and
the thief's were trying to determine the best time to break into his home.
A week or so later the thief's made their move and broke in. The police
were right behind them. As soon as the thief's got in they were busted.
That was back in the day when everyone had a call sign and you could only
buy CB's in the CB store.
That was back when CB was good. They had neighborhood watches and REACT
as well as clubs.
Regards, Scott W3CV Odenton, MD
